2012 WEEK 40 : RAM
Introducing a dutch dj/producer on U.M.E................
RAM
Introduction: A new name to some, but for those who live inside the Dutch borders. First part of the dynamic duo Bas&Ram. Nowdays solo for 1.5 years. From his 4 year DJ residency at Amsterdam’s TranceBuddha, RAM (real name Ram Boon) rapidly progressed to playing the very biggest events the Netherlands has to offer. Dance Valley, Sensation,Nature one, Trance Energy and Mysteryland are just some of the festivals that have rocked to the full-force of his trance sound.
Latterly it’s RAM’s productions that have pushed his name onto the global stage. ‘RAMsterdam’ became possibly the most talked about trancer of 2009 and by the end of the year it was Armin van Buuren’s much-quoted “best track of the year”. A regular breakthrough tip for highly-ranked international DJs, RAM’s sound is at this very moment going international.
The DJ: As a spinner with a profusion of behind-the-decks experience, RAM delivers his vibrant, impassioned sets weekly in the country’s major clubs. Mixing uplifting trance with tech, elec and vocals, it’s an inimitable sound-style that has won him a hard core of Dutch fans. This hybrid grew out of his enduring residency at TranceBuddha – the canal-side, in-the-know synth Mecca for native trance-heads. As his name began to catch, he went on to launch the Club Déjà vu events. And now in 2011 is focused at his residency on Grotesque (and organising) - the Netherlands’ busiest regular trance clubnight. In tandem with this he’s launched the Grotesque radio show, which goes out on Afterhours FM and additionally mixes his monthly Grotesque Podcast. And the upcoming Grotesque compilation serie. 2011 he's also starting his other residency at the Metropolitan nights..
The Producer: Comparatively RAM was a late starter in the studio. When he did finally settle into it though, it took just 15 months and 3 productions for the Dutchman to deliver a conclusive breakthrough! Following ‘Godspeed’ on the Netherlands’ Detox label in late 2008 and ‘Call It A Night’ (which was released through Spinnin’ subsid Reset the following year) he decided to take his third production to the door of Armada Records. Released in October of the same year through its A State of Trance imprint, ‘RAMsterdam’s wildfire effect was near instantaneous. Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Aly & Fila, Gareth Emery, John ‘O Callaghan, Sean Tyas, Simon Patterson and
Menno de Jong were just some of the DJs that spun, playlisted, radio aired and charted it throughout the last months of the year. Armin van Buuren ended 2009 by pronouncing it his “best track of the year!” and it’s one of the highest selling tracks the famed label has ever released. Galvanized by its success. At time of writing He’d had just released the official ‘RAMsterdam’ follow up ‘RAMazing’ on ASOT.Thas bin pushed again by all major players.
As a remixer he has also drawn considerable note through his reworks of tracks like Solarstone’s ‘The Calling’ and Ron van den Beuken’s ‘Timeless’. More recently he’s remixed for Mark Sherry, Fabio Stein, Sonic Element’s ‘Spirit of Time’ for Activa’s Borderline imprint , Flashbrothers , Fabio XB and many more.
